He presses his back against the cold wall, feeling like he’s about to die. The panic attacks have gotten worse as well. They’re longer now, more difficult to control.
He doesn’t try to picture Sydney’s face, because if he does, he would see her like the night that she left. Angry, and sad, and disappointed.
Thinking about her doesn’t help anymore. It makes it even worse. And it’s his fucking fault.

Sydney would complain about her constant cold fingers and dry knuckles often, she shouldn’t have been surprised Carmy wasn’t just listening but cataloging the facts about her into some place in his brain. And yet—
It made her ache, to be thought of like that.
