“I’m George,” the guy – George – says, not offering a hand. “Nice weather out here, don’t know how you race like this.”
Max is busy staring at the pearly whites blinding him. There’s no way this guy hasn’t had work done. Lips like those, plump and pouty, would probably burst if Max bit on them. The paddock has become a cesspool of influencers and celebrities since Netflix came in with their cameras, but it still rubs Max the wrong way, how they prance around knowing nothing about racing and offering their inane opinions.
“It’s fine,” he dismisses, gripping the ball. “I’m good at what I do.”
“I’m sure you are,” George says, flashing another cookie-cutter smile. “Good luck on Sunday, then.”

“Are you okay?”
A fresh wave of tears wells up in Lando’s eyes and overflows, stinging like someone’s sprinkled pepper over his face. Oscar’s face changes with alarm, eyebrows shooting up and hands reaching out and it’s too much and too little.
Lando pivots on his heel and rushes back to his spot on the bathroom floor, knees hitting the tile and vomit splattering all over the sides of the toilet bowl.

Gemma pauses the video. She un-shares her screen. Her smiling face pops back up in the centre of Max’s monitor, gaze distinctly pointed.
Wait.
“That’s it?” Max hisses, incredulous. “Seriously? I’m getting cancelled over a joke about fucking farming?”

Max has had PR disasters before. This time, though, he’s made the mistake of pissing off some random British farmer with a loyal YouTube fanbase and a penchant for passive-aggressive callouts via X. And George Russell isn’t the type who’s easily appeased.
(Or: Max learns to drive a tractor, harvest wheat, and fall in love.)
