Summary
Meryl Stryfe is an aspiring journalist at No Man Land’s University. She’s also an undercover romantic. She decides to write a romantic essay about a first date as a way to daydream. One day, the essay is accidentally published, and Meryl becomes an overnight sensation. Suddenly, everyone is intrigued by Meryl’s love life. Except they don’t know it’s fake. Made up by Meryl. Requests begin to pile in with interest for her one-time fake love life essay to become an ongoing series. There’s one problem. Meryl has no experience in romance. Only living through books as her source of romantic affairs. Desperate to hide the truth, Meryl offers an exchange with Vash Saverem, a charming plant biology student. He’d take her out on dates as material for her series and she’d be his tutor for an English course he has to retake. As Vash perfectly fulfills the romantic role, Meryl begins to wish it can become more than their proposed exchange. Deep down, Meryl hopes it can become something real.

But for now, there was no truth to the sentiment. No use in entertaining the idea. For he was Vash the Stampede, a man whose life was meant to be done in solitude. He was capable of giving life to a small paper but at the same time, had the ability to destroy anything he touched. Like a paper plane, Vash the Stampede’s path went in all sorts of directions, and sometimes, the descent wasn’t always a smooth landing. Unlike his paper plane game with Meryl where his planes had someplace to land, Vash was the opposite. No place or someone to fall back on. A lonely life Vash believed he resigned to.

And the times when Meryl thought Vash was elsewhere, she looked on with quiet eyes, wondering what laid beneath the surface. When there was a hint of a genuine look or thought that wasn’t overshadowed by his persona, Meryl made note of it. She consciously remembered his unusual craving for doughnuts (or any kind of food really) and began to wonder what were the other things Vash genuinely liked. Or what kind of life he had led prior to his outlaw one. But unknowingly, without any ambitious or journalistic intent, Meryl watched Vash through quiet eyes, as if she were taking notes for an article, but it was not meant to be shared with the world. It was an article she wanted to craft for herself.
