“I didn’t think it mattered to you,” she answers. “Honestly, I feel like we’ve been married for a long time already.”
Eren’s laughter, though somewhat strained, rings out as if he’s made an effort to do it. “Well, you’re right about that,” he concedes. “I’ve been married to you since I met you. But if you need a ring…” He reaches into his pants pocket and retrieves two wedding rings, their origin a mystery known only to him. “Here, this is for you.”
“Eren…” Mikasa’s voice trembles, and she fights to keep her composure. She doesn't want to break down. She should not. She must not. She cannot. “Thank you,” she says instead, allowing him to place the wedding ring on her finger.
