Summary
Kaito hates Kokichi… but he hates the killing game even more. In the cold, cavernous Exisal hangar, Kaito stares into the poison-fevered eyes of the Ultimate Supreme Leader and makes a decision: the killing game is over. He will not kill Kokichi. He will not drop the press and entomb this child inside the killing game he claims to despise. So, Kaito comes up with a plan to save Kokichi’s life, but to pull it off, the two of them will have to work together inside the Exisal, trick Monokuma into reaching a false verdict, and end the class trial before Kokichi succumbs to the Strike-9 poison.

where do i begin. me reading this was completely unprecedented in the first place -- i haven't genuinely been into danganronpa since around when v3 first dropped, which was a WHILE ago at this point. but something possessed me and i stumbled across this fic, and it's genuinely one of the best fics ive ever read. you have to understand, ouma and kaito were a dynamic i never cared to explore, danganronpa v3 was decidedly Not my favorite main dr game even back when i was into it, and again, its been years since i even cared about this series. but this fic is actually so great and im so glad i caught it just before the last couple chapters came out. its genuinely solving a lot of my gripes with v3 that its nuts, and attaching me to characters i previously didn't care much for or even disliked. RAAH!!! so good. so beautiful and takes the existential stuff i didnt like from v3, somehow worked with it without changing it too much, and made it a million percent more interesting and genuinely touching to me. big. huge. so excited for things to wrap up :3
writing this giant bookmark so future me doesnt ask past me why the hell i bookmarked a danganronpa fic in this day and age

absolutely lovely little au fic. i loved how it subtly parallels canon without it being too much??? i can't explain it, i just love how its not perfectly 1:1 but is still reminiscent. i always love seeing characters i love interacting in wildly different circumstances while still seeming like themselves too!!! loved this sm i will be revisiting. super cute spin on their story
