Summary
After California, the Byers move into the Wheeler’s house, and nothing feels the same.
The nights are too quiet. The basement is too cold. Will’s dreams are still full of fog and monsters, and the Upside Down never feels as far away as it should. When sleep becomes impossible, he reaches for the walkie-talkie out of habit, hoping for a voice that might ground him.
He does not expect it to be Mike’s.
Two months of silence sit heavy between them, filled with things they never said and questions they are afraid to ask. Mike is tired in a way Will does not know how to fix. Eleven is gone in ways that hurt more than distance. And somewhere between whispered conversations, shared blankets, and nights that stretch too long, the lines begin to blur.
What starts as comfort turns into something quieter and more dangerous. Something warm that settles deep beneath the skin.
As rain pours down on empty roads and secrets finally surface, Will realizes that some feelings do not fade. They live in the body. In the blood. In the veins.
And no matter how fast he runs, Mike is always there.

“You’re all I’ve ever wanted,” Mike says quietly, his words slurring just enough to make them sound fragile. There’s something bittersweet in his voice, as if those words were never meant to be spoken out loud.
“I’m sorry I can’t say it while sober,” he finally admits.
Will lets out a soft, stupid little laugh.
Because it’s New Year’s Eve, and this is how he’s spending it—sitting on the floor, a bottle of wine between him and Mike, listening to what feels like a lifetime’s worth of confessions spill into the space between them.
or; Will comes home from college for the holidays, something he hasn’t done in nearly three years. Seeing Mike again, it hits him, maybe nothing has really changed at all.

“Love advice..” Mike mutters to himself but Steve hears it and hums before eating the last piece of his snack and throwing the paper somewhere in the back.
”Yeah but if you want any dont go to Robin. She cant help you.”
”Why?”
”She just can’t.”
Mike furrows his brows and slightly tilts his head.
”I cant get advice from her and you can’t.” Steve says and starts fumbling with the radio.
“But Will can?” Mike asks with a questioning tone.
”I dont know. I mean maybe?” Maybe?
