We’re just gonna take you out of the equation for a little bit, that’s all, grant Achilles some clarity of mind.” Patroclus’ eyes went wide as he put it together, fists clenching on his thighs at Hypnos’ blithe air over such a cruel plan.
“I am to be held hostage?” he rasped, heart heavy and throat tight, “To be used against Achilles like... like a favored toy dangled over a misbehaving child?”

Summary
Lance has been in Seattle for less than a year when he realizes he's developed a crush on Shiro. That is unfortunate.
Finding out that Shiro and Keith have also been quietly sleeping together is worse.
He keeps the secret, tells Hunk, and decides to get over it. Nobody needs to know. Shiro certainly doesn’t.
Months later, Shiro starts looking at Lance differently.
Unfortunately for him, Lance has had an entire life before Seattle.
There are photographs. Old friends who know things nobody here does. People Lance has slept with and still likes. An ex who almost became family. Cities where he walks into a room and immediately belongs to it. Stories Shiro wasn’t there for and can’t somehow become part of after the fact.
Which is, Lance thinks, pretty fucking rich.
Because he already knows exactly what that feels like.
Or: Shiro and Lance spend an embarrassing amount of time being jealous of people who are not actually doing anything wrong.
