anyway, multi-chapter dostoy/dazai fic written for bottom dazai week 2024.
"You're pathetic," Dostoyevsky offers. It's a light, conversational tone: it sounds like it should be a comment on the weather given over high tea. But Dostoyevsky isn't surrounded by finger sandwiches and delicate scones– he's surrounded by the dark, muddled air of the room Dazai has been rotting in.

Summary
"Ah, shouldn't Chuuya be threatening me for stealing his first kiss–"
Chuuya gives into the teasing enough to hurl his pillow at Dazai's face. Dazai might be a nullifier, but the pillow can still impact with a good amount of gravity behind it– and it does. Dazai drops his magazine with a small whuff when it impacts, but the brief moment where they can't see each other gives them both time to regain their lost ground.
"That wasn't my first kiss anyway, you asshole! You've kissed me before!" Chuuya snaps, on much more familiar territory. "You just can't even accept thanks!"

"We're not fifteen anymore," Chuuya says, and Dazai snorts, because he's fully aware of that; it's been a downhill journey ever since he passed twenty-five, and he's not sure his joints will ever recover. "People are worried about you."
"People," Dazai repeats, faintly. Go home and rest, Mori had said.
"Yeah." Chuuya flicks Dazai in the nose, and Dazai scrunches his face up. "There's a bunch of people you've tricked into caring about you."

Summer is Chuuya's favourite season, because that's when his parents take him to Naha for school break.
There's a lot to love about this, of course. Holidays are special, magical, even, for a child. But out of all of the hundreds of fun things he could list about being on holiday here, if Chuuya was asked to pick just one, there's no doubt about what he would say.
“My best friend Dazai,” he'd gush, mismatched eyes wide with childish glee. “My best friend in the entire, whole wide world! He lives there, in Naha, and I get to see him every summer when we travel there!”

"Hey," Albatross says, sitting up on his elbows without a care as to the rocks digging into his skin. "What's up with that kid?"
He nods in the direction of the person he's talking about, and they all glance over with the perfect synchronization of a group that loves drama and is often shittalking somebody else.
There's a lone kid, down by the water. They're dressed in a white button up with faint blue stripes, dark brown combat trousers tied to their waist with a large belt. Short, messily cut brown hair flutters around their face in the breeze, making it so that Chuuya can't see their face.
Interesting.

“Awassat?” Chuuya groans, twisting in his sleep with a grimace on his face. His eyelashes flutter slightly. “D’zai, can't you let me sleep in a li’l longer…”
“Ok,” Dazai says, nodding his head agreeably. “But it's snowed and I think it's completely trapped us in the cabin.”
Chuuya freezes, and then his eyelids fly open.
“If you're joking,” he says, extremely slowly, stressing each syllable and looking Dazai dead in the face. “I'm going to break each and every one of your limbs with hammers and leave you on the floor in the closet.”
“I mean it,” Dazai replies gravely. It's a rare occurrence, to wake Chuuya up for something other than a prank. “We're actually, genuinely stuck inside.”

A plan to cheer Chuuya up near the anniversary of his friends deaths goes wrong when the two of them get trapped in a cabin with no way to call for help. Summary
"Don't go back to sleep," Dazai says, and there is a surprising hint of demand in his voice. Chuuya feels something at the end of the bed sag, signifying Dazai has finally sat down, for whatever reason he does anything.
"Wasn't gonna," Chuuya grunts. His head is swimming, and he can't think. "But why?"
He hears an intake of breath from Dazai's direction, and shifts to try and see his silhouette in the dark. "Chuuya," says Dazai, suddenly serious. "You were trying to activate Corruption in your sleep."

What’s the worst thing that could happen as Soukoku’s newly assigned handler? Well, to start, Hirotsu was only assuming this position because the teens managed to kill their last handler. And the one before that. And Mori refused to disclose what the boys did to the first one.

Dazai is not good at taking care of himself, so Chuuya does it for him.
