Summary
Bill never has any reason to feel jealous.
There’s no need. He and Frank live a sheltered life away from the rest of the world, away from other people. There are no friends to be had, as he’s told Frank a thousand times.
So there’s no competition. No one to be jealous of. If Frank leaves, it won’t be because of someone else; it will be because it’s his choice, and heartbreaking as that may be, Bill could deal with that better than someone taking Frank away from him.
Frank has briefly mentioned ex-boyfriends he’d had before the world went to shit, and although Bill has felt a little pang of envy imagining Frank with someone else in the past, and he knows he wouldn’t have stood a chance with Frank back then, he’s never really felt jealous because he knows he won’t lose Frank to anyone else now.
Then Joel Miller comes along.

“I’m fine,” Frank says softly as Bill’s thumb traces over the pulse in his wrist. “Promise.”
Bill looks at him with glistening eyes and wet cheeks. “Don’t you understand? I have to protect you. I wouldn’t be able to live without you. Not now I know what it’s like…”
He looks away, and Frank feels his heart swell.
“You did protect me, Bill. You always keep me safe.”
Bill nods, wiping his tears away. “I will always take care of you. I’d do anything to keep you safe. I’d die for you.”
The words hang heavy in the air, hitting Frank square in the chest like a bullet.
“Don’t be stupid,” Frank says softly, voice trembling again.
OR
Bill kills two men to keep Frank safe, and he’d do it again.

Summary
El was never close to Steve Harrington. She's heard a few stories about him being an asshat when he was in high school, but she's never seen him be anything but nice to her friends. It makes her confused, but since her dad can be wary of him at times, she is too.
However, when he shows up at the cabin in the freezing cold dead-of-night, El makes the decision to help him, and it might just be one of the best decisions she makes (besides saving the world).
