Summary
Loving Mel is strikingly different from loving Abby, as much as he hates himself for even making the comparison. She had been keeping herself and her sister afloat for years through college and medical school, all while maintaining a bright attitude that drew him to her in the first place. She was grounded enough in reality for him to know that she was not wholly innocent, but there was a brilliant allure to the way she interacted with the world despite knowing how cruel it could be. Her polite exterior was mistaken far too often for fragility, even though she may be the toughest person that he has ever met.
When he takes care of her, he knows that it is only because she has allowed him to, not because she expects him to. There is a difference between those notions.

Summary
Frank’s jaw has been hanging so low for the past thirty seconds that his mouth is starting to feel parched. He barely notices when Yolanda starts nudging at his shoulder and saying his name, because his full attention, importantly, is devoted elsewhere. Namely, where Mel stands at the back of the bar commanding the stage, spouting the most erotic lyrics Frank thinks he’s ever heard in his life.
The Pitt residents are at a karaoke bar for Dennis' birthday. Songs are sung, and Mel is determined to make her move.

Summary
"Mel," he repeated, sturdier this time. "You're…. you're killing me here."
"How so?" she asked automatically, voice husky and sincere. Frank laughed under his breath.
"Mel," was all he could say again, his voice dropping another octave. The skin behind her ears prickled at the pleading tone in his words. "Please."
She swallowed roughly, her fingers stilling against his hot skin. Another step too far. Another tread past plausible deniability. But she deserved nice things. They both did.
In which Langdon's offer to fix Mel's leaky sink turns into a revelation of tattoos and one relationship redefining moment

Summary
All things considered, it was probably for the best that Mel King was a Beta. She couldn't imagine being overwhelmed by scent and instinct 24/7 like an Alpha or an Omega, so she really couldn't be too upset on that front. Not to mention also the other social layers to the designations, no thank you.
Being a Beta was safe and boring. Dr. Langdon didn't seem to mind befriending them either, so that was a plus.
As hectic as the Pitt could be, the return of her favorite doctor did a lot for Mel's peace of mind, even if he smelled kind of good and was kind of too nice to her. He was a little bullheaded about it, but that's just how Alphas were. Right? Yeah.
