“It was a seven.”
Mike’s head snapped towards the sound of Will’s voice. “Huh?”
“The roll. It was a seven.” Will was staring up at him, looking a bit meek on his bike.
Mike furrowed his brows, not quite catching up to Will’s words yet.
“The Demogorgon. It got me,” Will clarified. He shrugged a little, then began to pedal away. “See you tomorrow!”
The basement lights flickered.
Mike let his heart slow, wondering why Will had decided to tell him the truth. A simple lie would have benefitted Will, and Mike couldn’t even disprove it. Nevertheless, Will couldn’t lie. Not to him. And that warmed something in Mike, something small and significant that could be pushed aside but not forgotten. Something to get him through the night that hadn’t exactly ended to his liking.
Mike turned off the lights and headed back inside.
