It’s far away and echoing, getting louder with every one of his footsteps in his direction until it’s blaring right next to his ear. Like a worm in an apple, Kaito surrounds him in the most unpleasant way and he’s too weak to chew himself out. “If there are other universes, we’re going to be best friends.”

Summary
The hospital bed’s mattress is thin and he can feel the springs grinding against his back, trying to erode him away.
It’s a short boy who opens the door, smiling warmly and dressed in a set of black scrubs with a white coat thrown over top. The jacket is too big for him, undone at the front with the sleeves rolled up - one less rolled than the other, he notices - and it hangs down nearly to his knees. His smile is deceiving, too sharp at the edges like he’s hiding razorblades in his cheeks. On his feet he’s got a pair of purple rubber-soled shoes and his hair is tied back in a small ponytail where his neck meets his head, bright purple strands curling up at the ends like they’re reaching for the sky or about to be struck down by lightning.
He knows the man and it could be both.

“This is soooooo romantic, Momo-chan.” Oma says, kicking the black reclining seats where they connect at the legs, a pout plastered on his face, “are all your first dates like this?” He’s got his hands on his hips, cinching the oversized uniform shirt around his body, his garbage bag sagging at one end and dipping to the floor like tar. “No wonder you don’t have a girlfriend.”
“Can you shut up?” Kaito asks, knowing it’s in vain as he watches a pout form on Oma’s face, the boy’s a second away from spouting out more nonsense, “I didn’t know Momota-chan was so sensitive about his love life.” And, spout bullshit he does.
