That earns him his first chuckle from the king, which he files away in his memory as he ties the apron behind his back. He turns to the counter, cracks two eggs into a bowl, and starts whisking.

Summary
When the storm came, it was a surprise to everyone. Everyone except a handful of determined engineers and scientists who had predicted the end of the world. In the months preceding the apocalypse, unbeknownst to everyone but a select few, several coal-powered generators were secreted away, ready to protect the remaining members of the human race from the cold.
Now, the only people left are those who were in on the plan, or were lucky enough to stumble upon them.
Simon and his family are some of the lucky few.
But down in the depths of the coal mines, working for his life, Simon doesn't feel that lucky. Certainly not as lucky as the group known as The Society. All of whom seem not to need to earn their place here.
When one of the members of The Society approaches him one evening, Simon is less than polite. But Wille is persistent, and, when Simon's life takes a dire turn, he can no longer be as picky about what company he keeps. And perhaps he doesn't want to be either...

Summary
Simon has exactly three rules when it comes to hookups: no personal details, no attachments, and never the same man twice.

Wilhelm shrugged, “And I want a horse, but they are terrified of me. We do not all get what we want, no matter how much we yearn differently.”
“I am not a horse!” Simon bit back.
“No, you are my slave,” Wilhelm reminded the boy.
