Summary
The entire apartment has been eggshells, lately. She can’t bring up anything meaningful in conversation without Harry’s jaw clenching, his eyes going hard and blank à la Athena Grant. Can’t talk about Mom, or Bobby. At least now she knows why he’s been pissy when she’d ask about school these past few months. Harry makes sure to steer clear of any discussion about their actual lives; May walks the line, dipping a toe into the murky waters sometimes just to see if he’ll still bite. He does, every time, and she backs off like a coward.
So it’s this— sitting on the couch with popcorn. Half invested in watching The Bachelor and half invested in watching Buck repeatedly frog a single line of navy blue crochet. Glancing at Harry every time something funny happens just to catch him smile. It’s pretending things are okay.
Or, May and Buck are at a loss with Harry's anger, and Eddie is more than happy to lend a hand. And a set of boxing gloves.

Summary
“But with Bobby, I’ve been trying to do better,” Eddie says.
A hand rests on his shoulder, a thumb stroking. It’s a familiar gesture, but the fingers aren’t calloused enough to be her brother’s. Maddie’s fingers are slimmer, more delicate. It eases the hurt all the same.
“I think you have been,” Maddie reassures him, “at least you’re not joining illegal fight clubs this time. Just very legal book clubs.”
Eddie snorts. The callout was unexpected.
“You’re not what?” Karen’s eyes bulge out of her head as she sits back down.
Eddie chuckles and finally meets Maddie’s gaze. “I hate that Buck tells you everything.”
OR: Eddie joins a book club with Maddie and Karen after Bobby’s death, while Buck slowly drifts away.

Summary
He starts carrying around his old stethoscope from his Army days—the one he’d snuck from his pack to his regular luggage, the day he flew out of Afghanistan for good, because he figured he’d need it again. Or maybe he just wanted a reminder of it, of the fact that he had done it, had gone to war and it wasn’t some elaborate, feverish nightmare.
Now, it just heightens the feverish nightmare of the fact that his heart cannot beat without his son.
He wakes up in the middle of the night and checks it—his heart, still pounding in his chest. He wakes up in the middle of the night and checks on Christopher, too. He watches him breathe as he sleeps and matches his breath with it.
He figures out that when he’s at work, without Christopher, he doesn’t really need to eat or rest. If he injures himself, he won’t bleed until he’s home. His body doesn’t process any sensation or experience without Christopher. He gets pale and cold after a couple of hours without him. He’s nothing but a walking corpse until he sees his son again.
[AU where Eddie's heart stops beating unless he's around Christopher; or, a study in how to live for yourself.]

Summary
"Okay," Eddie says, shaking his head like he's throwing off the laughter. "Touch my ass."
"What?"
"The only way for us to face this is to jump in. So, touch my ass."
Buck untangles his arms from around Eddie. "I think the mood's gone."
"Oh, c'mon," Eddie whines. "I promise I won't laugh."
"I don't want to do it anymore."
That earns him a raised eyebrow. "You don't want to touch my ass?"
"Eddie—"
"Just touch my ass."
"Stop saying ass."
"Ass, ass, ass, ass, ass—"
Side effects may include laughter during sex, moody teens, competitive streaks a mile wide, and the ability to (somewhat) effectively communicate.
or...Finally together, Buck and Eddie navigate their developing relationship. Eddie’s laughter at the thought of sex and Chris’s passive aggressive mixed signals don’t help a spiraling Buck’s mourning of an imagined loss of friendship. Meanwhile, Eddie comes to terms with his identity and it means for him. Featuring too much information shared during wine nights, zoo trips with a gaggle of kids, and an exhausted Ravi.
