“Excuse me?” the girl called, and Mizuki’s heart stuttered at the unexpected softness of her voice. Clutching a hand to her chest as if she could’ve contained its pulse, she blinked so rapidly that the room almost began to spin, before noticing that the girl was now staring at her, her head tilted over her shoulder and the sunlight streaming behind her.
Like this, she seemed ethereal; almost unreachable - unapproachable - and it was with the warmth of the sun reflecting off of her eyes that she spoke again. “How do I tell somebody that they’re annoying?”

Summary
Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t end with a bang. It doesn’t end with much at all.
Hitori used to have a misconstrued sense of what being in a band actually entailed. Her only sources were emerging rockstars; passion-ridden, rag tag misfits who skyrocketed from their first album and stayed soaring ever since. Hitori loved their stories, thrived from their energy, and completely took their experiences at face value. It took Kessoku Band a year to dismantle most of the misconceptions she had. Even now, some odd ideas slip through the cracks. The reality always leaves her drowning.
This time, it came as a text.
'Does anyone else think we should go on a break sometime?'

An is so loved. And she knows that. But sometimes it feels like being kept in a tiny jewellery box, like a little china ballerina that spins and spins on command and aches for the applause that comes after, but is always put back on the shelf when things spill out of her container. When they think it'll be too much for her to hold.
“When did you know,” she says abruptly, clumsily, forgetting it's meant to be a question. Mid-sentence, Haruka trails off, and their circle falls back to that tense, brittle quiet. Mizuki shifts, looking away.
“Know what? That I was a lesbian?” says Haruka.
“I guess so,” An replies, even if she’s not sure that’s what she was asking. “Yeah.”
“Well, what about you?” Ena prompts, attempting a smile. “At some point you just figure it out, right?”
“Do you?” says An, far too needily.
She flicks back through a mental rolodex of all the times she's thought well, maybe and finds a big fat nothing; no moment of certainty.
During an ad-hoc sleepover, An comes to a couple of realisations.

Alright, so maybe they’re not perfect yet. Maybe they’re still far from reaching the pinnacle of mental health, but Mizuki’s more than certain that they’re at the very least much less of a mess than they were in high school. They’re slowly figuring out the bits and pieces, slotting chunks together and seeing what sticks, like a thousand piece puzzle they’re just about getting the hang of. And that’s okay, because Ena’s got their back.
(In which Mizuki accompanies An to a jewellery store and is forced to confront the state of their relationship with their longtime best friend-turned-housemate, and where it all stands between their personal growth.)
