Summary
Bellamy has been separated from his friends and his sister for months now, alone with his dog Picasso and searching fruitlessly on the surface of an Earth he has always been told is completely inhospitable to humans. Only it isn't inhospitable; the Ark was wrong, or lying. The environment itself might not be dangerous, but the witches, vampires, and violent biker gangs that roam the desert mean there's still plenty around that Bellamy needs to watch out for. When he saves "King" Roan's life and his plans to rescue his missing people are suddenly thrust into the realm of the possible, Bellamy finally gets his chance to face the mistakes of his past and recover some of what he lost.

Finn likes living in this house, with Murphy. They’re the only seniors, so they got the biggest room, the one with dark brown shiplap on the walls and stupid little porthole windows. Murphy doesn’t sleep in there most nights. He likes to sleep in the attic. "You are to be engaged to a Sky Person, a Trikru member and a Floukru member respectively, and to live in Polis until the commander sees the coalition fit to annul you. I will have no need for royal advising, generals or battle strategists as we actively try to avoid war, so your royal duties are no longer necessary."
Roan stands from the throne at the final word, pacing slowly past the three of them as they process the news- the room is still silent, but their thoughts swirl around them all, doing all the talking for them.
Marriage? They're to be married, to live in Polis?
And in a matter of seconds, so easily, so succinctly, their lives have been turned upside down.

John Murphy is blind, stuck living with the Jahas, and in desperate need of an outlet for his snowballing anger. Bellamy owes Arkadia fifty hours of community service, and the Franco High cross-country team won't have Murphy without a guide that can keep up with him.
Everyone gets what they want— if Bellamy and Murphy can learn to keep pace with one another.
