Summary
Ronan raises an eyebrow. “It’s Friday.”
“I have work in the morning.”
Gansey pops up on his tiptoes to whisper in Adam’s ear. “It would delight me if you came,” he murmurs. Adam bites down on his tongue reflexively.
If he says yes now, Ronan will be insufferable. He’s unashamed of being Gansey’s dog and he thinks it’s a little funny that Adam hates it, looks down on Ronan, and refuses to be turned into Gansey’s pet project. Adam gets riled up by his incessant poking and teasing when they snipe back and forth, but somehow they never end up in the silent stalemates that Adam and Gansey’s fights result in. It’s Gansey’s wholly consuming wonder and Ronan’s fluid, frenetic impossibility that keep Adam coming back. “Fine,” he spits, even more furious than earlier.
Ronan huffs out a laugh, but he doesn’t push it for once. “Get in the car, then.”

Ronan tosses the food in the passenger seat and Adam’s coldness worsens to the point of frigidity when Gansey drops a sloppy kiss on Ronan’s jaw. Ronan smirks and ruffles his hair, worsening its state. Was that how it got so messy before? Adam wonders. He hates Ronan for a second, truly hates him, then feels ridiculous. I came second. They had each other first.

Summary
In a second, Adam has Gansey pushed up against a nearby tree. His hands are hot on Gansey’s waist and his wrist, and his face is so close Gansey can feel the humidity of his breath. Gansey is caught in his gaze, unnaturally bright eyes and a burning desperation that verges on panic. “Adam,” Gansey repeats, quieter. It’s starting. “It’s alright.”
“It’s not,” Adam spits. He’s like a cornered animal, except he’s the one keeping Gansey pinned here. Gansey isn’t afraid. He’s not apprehensive or worried, even if he should be. “Fuck,” Adam gasps, such frenetic fear in his voice that Gansey aches for him. He throws himself back from Gansey and splays his hands over his shoulders, arms criss-crossed like he’s protecting his chest, or what lies beneath his ribcage.

Adam and Gansey come across the same plant that Blue and Gansey found. Gansey tries to warn Adam, but if he won't listen, neither of them can be to blame for what happens after. -
