Summary
It’s perfect. Kara can’t believe this is what she’s been missing out on this whole time- Lena soft in the morning, trading stories about their days over lunch, napping in front of the TV. Knowing her more than she’s ever known anyone in her life, even her sister, who’s always had a habit of keeping her deepest desires a secret, who couldn’t hide the tinge of sadness when Kara talked about Krypton, her mother, the annoying antics of her childhood best friend that she had to deal with, the house Alura had bought for when she visits.
Kara brushes an affectionate hand along the arch of Lena’s foot, keeping it there when Lena responds with a hum.
She has nothing to blame for what next comes out of her mouth except the sense of belonging she feels everywhere in her chest, the comfortable routine they started that belongs to lovers rather than friends. “You know, when I get married, I want someone exactly like you.”

OR Kara asks Lena to marry her. The only problem? They’re just friends.

It's a familiar sentiment in some ways—as a struggling nineteen-year-old witch, Lena's grown accustomed to falling apart over the simplest things about her magic, about learning spells and potions and figuring out her own identity enough to do incantations with any real meaning—but the way she falls apart about Kara feels different.

Betrayal is not an unfamiliar thing.
As wretchedly sad as it would be to admit aloud, or indeed to herself, Lena knew it as distinctly as she knew herself. She knew the way it felt in her chest, the weight of it inside her body and the bitter taste it always left in her mouth until she chased it away. Some betrayals were lesser than others. Some stung but failed to surprise her, some barely gained a reaction, and some came out of nowhere and sent her reeling and overly self-analytical to see where she went wrong, what she had done to deserve it. The answer was usually simple: her name.
She just never expects it from Kara.

“You know you can’t lie to me.” Lena says quietly, her smile only growing. She leans closer around the tiny table and her hand lands on Kara’s thigh, fingers spreading out and nails digging in ever so slightly. “Does me buying things turn you on, Kara?”
Even if Kara’s fumbled words don’t confirm Lena’s suspicions, she’s pretty sure that the crimson blush creeping up her neck is doing it for her. Lena surreptitiously moves her chair closer and leans into Kara’s space, breath hot on her cheek, and kisses a bright red lipstick mark onto the curve of her jaw.
“Noted.”

Lena is National City’s hottest billionaire, and Kara maybe likes it when she waves her platinum card around a bit. And maybe, just once, Kara wants to be a little bit spoiled.

The first time Kara saw Lena Luthor was in her office and it felt like she’d been sucker-punched in the gut.
Lena stood from behind her desk and smiled the kind of smile that indicated that neither visitor was welcome in her office. Still, she shook Kal-El’s hand like this wasn’t the man that had once been her brothers best friend and who had later exposed Lex Luthor’s business practices to be anything but what he’d professed. “Mr. Kent,” Lena greeted him, her voice was rich but cool, and Kara inched closer, feeling a bit like a magnet being drawn to a lodestone. Then those clear green eyes turned to her and if Kara had been sucker-punched in the gut just by Lena Luthor’s presence, it was nothing in comparison to being the centre of her attention. “And who might you be?”

Kara finally works up the courage to tell Lena how she feels.
Lena knows her family needed to pay for their crimes. She knows she owes the world a debt for the blood flowing through her veins. But making her listen to the woman she loves talk about how in love she is with someone else seems especially cruel.
Or, Kara and Lena are both pining, oblivious idiots who need to learn how to properly communicate. And Alex Danvers is the best sister ever.

Summary
Kara changes her life in every way, changes her more than Lena could have ever thought possible. And in the process, Lena falls, inevitably, tragically, and falls hard.
She can handle it, Lena decides very early on. She knows that she could not ever be worthy of Kara’s love like that: her conviction only grows stronger once Kara unbuttons her shirt with a shy, shaky smile, and reveals the shining crimson S beneath it. Lena forbids herself of even dreaming of such things, then, and shoves her feelings far, far down in her heart. But the friendship can still be kept, nourished, so Lena draws a meticulous list in her head of permissible and forbidden, of the ways she might allow herself to receive and return Kara’s affections.
Dancing is not one of them.

In the year it has taken for them to grow close again, then even more close, Lena’s learned that even when Kara’s gone, her presence lingers. Some of it is expected and evident: an oversized sweater strewn over Lena’s pristine couch from their last movie night, a notepad forgotten at her office, the alerts she sneakily sets on Lena’s phone to remind her to eat and leave work at a reasonable hour. Others are more complex, ever-varying: the world seems to be limitless in sensations that can conjure up Kara in her mind.
