Summary
Keith spent two years on the space whale watching visions of his future play out before him. There were parts of the visions Keith desperately hoped he would live to have: a cozy house on the beach, a loving family, a daughter, and a boy with blue eyes. There were also things he viciously did not want to come true.
When Keith and Krolia escape the space whale and return to the Castle of Lions, he sees Lance for the first time in years. Lance’s eyes are the same shade of blue as the boy in the visions, and Keith doesn’t know how he hadn’t realized it sooner. Of course, it would be Lance. Of course, Keith would do anything to make a future with Lance a reality.

Edwin does not know what his face does, then, but whatever it is makes Charles jerk forward, one hand outstretched as if to catch him. As if he’s afraid Edwin might fall.
And perhaps he might have. Edwin has always had a frail constitution, unsuited to the wartorn theatres of Europe or the halls of St. Hilarion’s where boys would crowd around the morning newspaper for the lists of confirmed casualties, to learn if they still had brothers and fathers. Edwin was unsuited even to the safety of his own bed, where he lay down to sleep one night and opened his eyes again hurtling straight into his own death.
He might have fallen straight through the desk into Charles’ arms if they hadn’t been interrupted.
