Klaus continued toward the door until Five chimed in with his dreaded inquiry: “Where are you going?”
“Oh, uh…” Curse this damn backpack. “Just a little vacation.”
Five, as was expected, didn’t buy it. His eyebrow drifted upward in suspicion. “Vacation to where?”
Klaus gave up on his nonexistent cover. “Oh, you know…Dallas…”
This revelation prompted Five to sit up in surprise, stirring him from his impenetrable repose. “Dallas?”
“Yeah, Dallas, it’s a lovely area: familiar, but still plenty to explore-”
“Why on Earth would you want to go back to that hellhole?” Five had already set his margarita down.
“You really wouldn’t understand, so don’t worry about it-”
“Try me.”
“Okay, okay, fine.” Klaus let out a huff of defeat and nerves before launching into defense mode. “I have to find out if Dave survived."

Klaus returns to Dallas to find out if he changed the timeline enough to save Dave from his fate. In finding him, he receives the most bittersweet shock of his life.

“The Commission-” Five stresses through clenched teeth, and Klaus waves him off.
“I know, I know. Scary time traveling assassins, I get it, but why would we have to worry about them now-”
Klaus is interrupted as the door bangs open, and familiar footsteps hurry towards them. He can’t help but smile as Dave’s voice rings out, tension leaving his body, because this whole fucking day might be a painful mess, but Dave always seems to make things a little bit brighter.
“Klaus, darlin’, I got your message. S’everythin’ alr-”
“You,” Five snarls venomously, and Dave’s head swivels towards him, eyes wide in surprise.

Ben shrugged helplessly. “You could ask, but….”
But Five wouldn’t answer, Klaus knew. Not yet. Convincing Five to open up took finesse. For starters, Klaus had to get him talking again, so he tossed out the first question that came to mind – “Hey, did you and Dolores break up or something?”
“Abort mission,” Ben deadpanned.
