“I need a cake for this weekend, please,” Ian emphasizes the word “please” as he looks up from the cannoli case and comes face to face with the demanding customer. He lets the harsh tone slide as soon as he sees the man in front of him.
“What’s the cake for?” Ian asks, eying the man. He’s cute, more than cute really, but Ian is trying to control himself in the face of a customer. He guesses he could always blame his flushed face on the heat from the burners.

It’s perhaps the sweetest Svetlana has ever known Ilyusha to be. She has always been granted access to the more affectionate side of Ilyusha, the one that he rarely shows to anyone else, but it was never anything compared to this. This tenderness, this adoration, that he gives so freely to Shane. It’s like her best friend is a completely different person right now, and she starts to wonder if maybe she was wrong earlier.
Maybe, instead of being too boring for Ilyusha, perhaps Shane Hollander is giving him the space to become something soft. Something without walls, or masks, or armour.

Ilya does mind. Hearing it said back to him, almost makes him flinch, a sudden and brittle sound right next to his ear that he fails to recoil from in time. But he swallows back the bitter truth and replies, “Of course not. If that is what you want.”
He waits, sitting on his living room couch, phone pressed painfully against his ear, his other hand gripping his knees till his knuckles blanched. He could feel his own heart rattling behind his ribs, pulse rockingloudly. His mind was an echo of alarm, demanding of him: Why isn't Shane saying anything?
It was the loudest silence he’s ever lived through, until Shane finally said, “Okay.”
OR: inspired by the fight in TLG where Ilya tells Shane he can sleep with other men. But this time, Shane actually takes the offer.
