“You looked sort of faint when I mentioned Nico,” Jasmine points out. She’s still smiling gently. “Would you like to sit?”
“He’s dead,” Livio manages to say. Jasmine goes very still, her hands frozen—tight—on the edges of the tray she carries. Livio can’t muster her courage and lowers his gaze, stares at her socked feet instead. “I killed him. I—as good as killed him, anyhow.”
There is a look that Livio is expecting to find on Jasmine’s face. It’s the look Mr. Vash always just barely manages to suppress when they meet up, the one he saw on Jasmine’s own years and years ago, when he woke up with blood on his hands after Razlo attempted to shield her from harm. Even if Jasmine has grown now, her smiles are similar; sweet, slightly timid. Livio can’t imagine her scorn will be that much different.
He chances a look. Jasmine’s eyes are sad, rather than angry.

“With that…” He gestures broadly to Vash’s face and drops his gaze. “That look. Like you—” He’s not even sure how to describe the way Vash looks at him. He’d written it off at first as just how Vash is, a notorious people-liker, odd considering how often people are always shooting at him, but Wolfwood’s seen him interacting with enough other people to know that actually isn’t the case. That smile, whatever means, it’s—unique, to Wolfwood, and damnit if that doesn’t make his chest feel like it’s caving in on itself.
Vash lets out a quiet laugh. “You used to like my smile.”

Wolfwood wakes up late and finds that Vash has wandered off. As any good bodyguard would do, Wolfwood tracks him down.
