“Huh, you and Yuta?” Panda asks and Inumaki hasn’t finished processing what he’s just told them both, what stupid joke he had tried to pull this time. His eyes wide and his hands going still. So still that he could feel the wind kiss and caress between his fingers- pity for something.
Pity for what? A silly joke? A joke that had no meaning, and would be forgotten in minutes?
“He’s been making it quite clear for a while,” Maki comments with her expression staying the exact same as it had been before. No signs of her recognising the joke. No signs of her playful scorning look because Inumaki had told a joke a little too pressing or on the line.
That. Wasn’t what Inumaki was going for. He wasn’t sure what he was going for.

Summary
It’s in the middle of scanning the last bottle of green tea that Itadori properly looks up. Eye contact with him is a physical, unexpected shock, a crunch of imaginary static snapping through Megumi and leaving his hands twitching at his sides.
"Hey." Itadori blinks, wide and earnest. "Do I know you from somewhere?"
The tea sloshes backwards in the bottle he’s holding. Megumi focuses on this until his vision steadies.
"No," he says. "I don’t think so."
In the aftermath, Itadori loses his memories instead of his life. Megumi grieves nonetheless.
