“James Wilson, M2 at Columbia,” James said, reaching out for a handshake. “It’s great to meet you.”
“What, you’re gonna tell me the specialty you want and the next time you plan to have sex too?” House glanced at his hand, then at his face. “That was a joke. Don’t tell me, I don’t care.”

Speak of the devil and he’d appear, think of Bobby Moch and he’d break down Don’s door. It’s like Bobby had a special sixth sense for when Don was wallowing in Bobby-induced self-pity.
“‘m coming, hold on,” Don grumbled, stumbling towards the door and tugging it open.
“Uh, hi,” Don said, dumbly, eyes latched to where Bobby's suit accentuated his trim waist. “You look… nice.”
“Why thank you, Donny,” Bobby replied with a wide grin. “We’re going out.”

Summary
Don heard a low whistle from behind him and turned to find Bobby leaning against the wall. He didn’t look much worse for wear, but Don still made his way over to him, keeping his head ducked down so Bobby wouldn’t see his face.
“How are you? You doin’ okay?” Don asked, voice soft even in the quiet of the night.
Bobby smiled at him, and it was like a million stars had lit up the sky. “Thanks for asking, Superman. I’m doin’ just fine.”

Summary
Isagi walks over and picks up the stake, running a finger over the delicate carvings on the handle. “Is it strange to you?”
“Hm?” Rin murmurs.
“Killing vampires, then coming home to me?”
Rin is silent, but Isagi feels his eyes burning into him.
“Sorry, that was an odd question,” he says, placing the stake back down. He schools his expression, trying to keep his voice bright. “You don’t have to answer that.”
“It’s not,” Rin says, voice low. “They’re not like you at all. These vampires are -” he stutters, trying to find the words, “monsters, they’re creatures. You’re human, almost.”

Summary
“There was a vampire in that building.” Rin murmurs.
“There was,” the strange man agrees, his voice hesitant. “There’s not anymore, though.”
Rin squints up at him. “Explain.”
Then, three things happen at once.
First, Rin shuffles, trying to gain leverage over the man so he can sit up and push him off.
Second, in doing so, he feels the freshly clotted wound on the side of his head reopen.
Third, the man’s bright blue eyes flicker down to where a lone bead of blood is snaking its way down from the injury, then snap back up to meet Rin’s.
Their gazes meet for a fraction of a second and Rin's eyes widen in recognition.
“You’re a vampire,” Rin hisses.

Akutagawa makes himself known with a light cough. The sound startles Atsushi so bad that the dish slips from his soapy hand and he has to juggle it comically to prevent it from crashing to the floor. Akutagawa stifles a laugh into his palm and, after securing the plate and assuring that no other dinnerware will go flying, Atsushi looks up at him with reproachful eyes.
“Don’t scare me like that.”
“I assure you, weretiger, there were plenty of opportunities for you to notice my presence before this.” Akutagawa rights himself and takes a few steps into the kitchen. “Why are you here?”
“I missed you.” His honesty is disarming.

There’s a beat of silence as Atsushi examines him more thoroughly. His scans Akutagawa up and down, eyes lingering on the tattered remains of his white shirt underneath his black coat.

“Not my blood.” Akutagawa replies. He takes a half step forward hoping that Atsushi will take a step back and allow him inside.
Atsushi doesn’t budge from his spot in the doorframe.

“So you will?” Sae said, still ignoring Rin.
Shidou laughed again, and Sae took an involuntary step towards him. The sound was mesmerizing, rough and coarse yet somehow genuinely mirthful.

“No.” Sae’s voice was flat, betraying no hint of emotion. “But I’ll give you my number anyway.”

Ryusei’s eyes are wide. He blinks slowly once, twice, and then cocks his head. “Yes?” His voice comes out uncertain, as if he’s wondering if this is a trick question.
“You didn’t tell me.”
“I thought you knew,” Ryusei replies. “You asked me to bite you!”
“Yeah, bite me like a human, not like a,” Sae gestures wildly with his free hand, his voice dropping to a whisper, “vampire.”
Ryusei lets out a half-laugh. “Oh my god. We’re so stupid.” His half laugh resolves into a full laugh, and suddenly he’s doubled over, giggling. “Sae, we’re so stupid, aren’t we?”
The tension bleeds out of Sae’s shoulders. “Fuck, I guess we are.”

“Skaters like Kaiser aren’t worth shit without a competent partner.” Sae’s eyes meet Alexis’s, his gaze appraising. “And you’re far more than competent, aren’t you?”
