In this sleepy corner of the county, where the hay harvest is the event of the year and London society is but a faint murmur, brought in on the winds, the advent of not one but two Naval men is practically exciting.

    Summary

Back in the Arctic, stuffed two to a sleeping sack and trying to keep each other alert, he and James used to name every good type of thing they would eat when they got back, knowing–as they thought–the time would never come.

'Cream puffs', James had sighed one frigid night in a partial feverish delirium. Francis could hardly see him but for the lightest starlight, yet he had heard the smile evident in his voice all the same. That close, he had nearly felt it.

    ---

Hailed as heroes on their miraculous return to England, Francis and James fail to cope, but nonetheless manage to fall together.

“I would hazard a guess that you are in fact quite good with them–with children,” James says.

Francis makes a harumphing noise but does not disagree, which is as close to a confirmation as James is likely to get.

Something feels as if it clicks, subtly, into place inside him. A delicious, tingly warmth spreads throughout his body.

He emphatically declines to investigate the feeling.

This is a story about families—the ones we find, the ones we choose, and the ones we make.

It is also a story of James Fitzjames absolutely gagging to get knocked up by one Francis Rawdon Moira Crozier
