To his surprise, the corners of Wainfleet's mouth curved upwards in a smug little smirk. He blew a small bubble, but it ruptured prematurely. His tongue snaked out to scoop the thin veil of gum back into his mouth. Pink on pink. Glistening.
Quaritch had no idea why exactly this small series of motions caught his attention, but they did.
He had no idea that him hyper focusing on Lyle's mouth for a fraction of a second would - further down the line - lead to them laying askew in the soft green grass high up in the Hallelujah Mountains, watching a herd of wild direhorses graze, his head resting in the crook of Lyle's chest and armpit as Lyle would rake his fingers through his hair absentmindedly and Quaritch would wonder just what in the Brokeback Mountain was going on here.
