Summary
Pomni, in search of a new home after running from her last one, finds herself in a bunker run by a madman and a psychotic child. The others tell her that it’s best to just play along, but she’s not so sure. Especially after she sees what happens to those he decides aren’t worth keeping around. There’s a world out there, and sure it isn’t the best one, but it’s far better than what will happen to them if they stay where they're at. With help from her newfound friends, she’s got to get out before Caine decides that he’s bored and abstracts them, turning them all into his own idea of a twisted masterpiece.

It was uncanny how Christine’s face scrunched up just like Pomni’s did when he teased her. How she’d get that same, sly grin when she knew she had one-up on him (which she was getting better at, to Felix’s dismay). He wonders if he gets the same shit-eating grin he’d been prone to hang on his face when he smiles now. He wonders if Christine likes it as much as he likes the expressions she makes.
He was scared at how much he enjoyed prising these reactions out of her. Frankly, he was terrified. But he was also tired. And being with Christine, despite everything, was comfortable. Like these old-ass blankets, Felix—for now—was content to wrap himself in what comfort he could get ’til his brain mellowed out. The Thinking, that could come later. At least ’til he felt like a Human Being. And who knew how long that’d take.
In the aftermath of escaping the Circus, Felix finds himself drawn, hopelessly, to Christine.

That confirmed her suspicions but she felt a sense of unease with how… happy Jax seemed to be about this new revelation.
Pomni took a hesitant step back, her own hands instinctively moved to her own suit as if to protect it. “Jax…?” she trailed off, her voice uneasy.
Jax tilted his head in faux concern, ears drooped down. “What’s the matter Pomni? I thought you said you were 25, afraid of the birds and the bees?” He teased.
“N-N-No! Just…” Pomni sighed in frustration, forcing her hands to unclench from the fabric of her suit. She had to set the record straight. She squeezed her eyes shut, drew a deep breath, and then fixed Jax with the most serious look she could muster. “Don’t,” she stated, her voice low and deliberate. “Don't get any ideas.”
