Summary
When Bucky had returned, he hadn't expected to win his daughter back. He hadn't expected to get an arm back. He hadn't expected to be able to build a life for himself, really. Almost a year, an approximate ton of therapy, and a new car later, he thinks he's doing okay. His daughter has earned a scholarship at one of those fancy schools in a sleepy town, and their apartment might be small but it's cosy and warm. He's expecting things will be fine, and they'll settle into a rhythm.
He's not expecting to meet an All-American Beefcake in the school parking lot, with a frankly obnoxious daughter to boot. Great. Just great.

“It's not a dream, Buck,” he said, a smile forming on his lips when he noticed the hard lines on Bucky's face starting to soften little by little. “It's real.”
“I'm free,” Bucky breathed after a minute. A little smile slowly curled at the corners of his lips, and he repeated himself. “I'm free.”
Steve's own smile widened, and he scooted closer to him, reaching out to put a hand on Bucky's. “Yeah, Buck,” he said, voice soft and smile happy. “It's over. You're free.”

“I don't care.” Steve glanced over at the stranger, his face softening when he saw him sinking back into the couch cushions and gripping his backpack so tightly. “Sam, the guy looks like no one's been nice to him for years. How am I supposed to be okay with just sending him off somewhere?”
Sam sighed heavily and looked heavenward. “I swear to God, if I come by tomorrow and find you dead in your bed, I'm gonna find a way to bring you back to life just to kill you again.”
OR – in which former army captain, current farmer Steve Rogers finds a bruised and battered and dirty stranger who remembers nothing and doesn't speak in his barn. He takes him in, despite his friends' advice not to, and helps him recover. It's not easy. Especially not when, along the way, feelings get involved.

Steve just wants to wind down, post mission, with the silly cupcake game Clint downloaded onto his stark phone.
He doesn't know who 'Bucky' is, or why he's texting Steve so aggressively.
He doesn't mean to answer the phone and argue with the charming voice on the other end.
He certainly never meant for the arguing to be interpreted as flirting...
But maybe he should just go with it?
Maybe Bucky is exactly the leap Steve needs to take, to find his way in the world again.
