Summary
For Dream, emotions were like a glowing aura around everyone: The yellow glare of annoyance, the shower of pink joyful sparks, blue bubbles of content, and the smokey gray confusion. He’d always liked it, the beautiful colors and shapes and patterns, but he never knew how to describe it to anyone. It made sense that no one else could see it. Not many others were empaths, so they never saw the colorful auras.
For Nightmare, emotions had a certain quality to them, he couldn’t describe it. Boredom was like water, romance was an overpowering blizzard, melancholy was a cold night. It made no sense logically, but the quality of… conceptuality, perhaps? That described it best. It just seemed right… as much as it could, anyway.
Either way, for both of them, they were used to the bombarding auras of everything, they didn’t really question their perceptions of auras that much. It was normal, they both assumed that the other also understood it.
Until…

Or never got too injured, so nobody would have to heal him.
