The soft humming of a lullaby prevents him from pondering. Like the coming of a shark waiting to feast, the same voice reverberates under the water, soft and soothing like a music box, but deep and pulling like an anchor in the depths, as Phainon fights the urge to sleep. But what little can he hang on to when there is no point at all? A siren song works exactly like this: it relieves you of all conviction, and thus the listener turns into nothing more than an inebriated husk, only wishing to enact according to their innermost desires regardless of any consequence. Phainon slips in and out of that hazy state while he listens still, unable to muster any desire not to want to hear more—and, really, he would never want to.
phainon is the twin brother of the king who is sent away to die at sea. mydeimos is the siren who saved him, who sings to lure his victims and kisses them like death's final embrace. this is a story of what it means to love the sea in all of its beauty, and all of its terror.

"Khaslana would love this, too. Well, technically, I've never seen him read porn all my life, but there's no way he wouldn't get up to this, right? Maybe he likes you, and it's only going to be a matter of time until you leave me for him."
Mydei frowns. "That's not true…" he replies. What Phainon doesn't know won't hurt him. He doesn't need to know that Khaslana asked him out, that Mydei rejected him.
in which mydei finds himself unwittingly married to the fungus that possesses phainon's body and he has to get him back while also navigating his rocky relationships with phainon's brothers who are desperately in love with him.

One can accuse Neuvillette of preferential treatment, but the Melusines had never presumed him to be anything but fair and reasonable, and asking him about why Wriothesley is allowed such flexibility would only give non-answers at best. In the eyes of the chief justice, his actions lack no equity. He sees nothing wrong with allowing the warden of an underwater fortress to check on his health only whenever he wants while everyone else can't. The possibility of Wriothesley delaying his examination indefinitely could have crossed his mind, but he would rather tolerate a little bit of indulgence if it means Wriothesley won't be unhappy.
This isn't the first time Neuvillette finds out Wriothesley has been skipping his check up. This is, however, the first time Sigewinne sent him an urgent letter to visit because it's been a week after Wriothesley had locked himself in his office and no one ever saw him out since.
in which neuvillette accidentally gave wriothesley his mating brand and they both have to deal with the consequence of wriothesley being subjected to draconic dosages of aphrodisiacs while still living in a very human, very mortal body.
