Summary
“Ya loobloo ty—” Shane tries to repeat the Russian phrase that Ilya has told him more than once in the last five minutes but Ilya cuts him off abruptly.
“I love you.”
The numbers on Shane’s heart monitor skyrocket, so much that Yuna is tempted to call a nurse, or maybe take the elevator to the roof and scream until her throat is raw because this can’t be the real world, this must be some weird, crazy dream her mind must have come up with after too much wine.
“Ya tebya lyublyu,” Ilya says again. “Means I love you.”
After Marlow’s hit, in his confused state, Shane begs the trainers to tell Ilya that he is okay but they think Shane wants Ilya to come to the hospital with him, so they get him. And Ilya… goes.

Summary
Yuna was always a patient person. Always willing to wait, even as a mother. When she gave birth to Shane, she realized he wasn’t the same. Always whining and crying as a baby, then a toddler, and even as an adult. She’d pick him up from practice and listen to twenty minutes of him complaining about Coach Wiebe give a bad call or a specific Russian.
Ilya Rozanov. Over the course of ten years, Shane spoke less and less of him, she had noticed. Any time she mentioned him, her son would only nod his head and hum, before changing the topic.
Now she knows why.
Or: Yuna Hollander walks in on her son and his arch rival.

Summary
Ilya never wanted to break up in 2017. Instead, he wanted to confess his feelings and ask Shane to actually be with him. But the injury happened, and it was a career-ending injury that devastated Shane so much. He refused to see anyone (except his parents), including Ilya.
He disappeared, and no one knew where he was. No social media, no anything. He broke contact with Ilya as well.
Five years later, in the summer of 2022, Shane made a sudden decision to come back home. Ilya found out online, and without thinking twice, he made an impulsive, life-changing decision.
Well, he needs to see Shane. He needs to get him back. No. Matter. What.

Summary
Time for the highlight of the night.
As Boston’s General Manager, Barry had plenty of professional goals for his evening at the NHL awards. His singular personal goal, however, was to see Coach Theriault pop a fucking blood vessel.
He and LeClaire had already succeeded in trapping Theriault in conversation when Barry heard a very familiar Russian accent from over by the bar.
Well, a good manager knows how to delegate.
Barry waved Rozanov over to join them. Yuna Hollander noticed and stuck close to the kid’s side, her sharp gaze assessing as she too moved to join the conversation. Even better. Even fucking better.
Beside him, Theriault’s face had already turned a dangerous shade of red.
