There so many things to find appalling about the girl. In the closeness, those loathsome details were magnified, exposing more clearly the girl’s repulsive nature. There were those gloating eyes that burned into her prey. There was that disgustingly bright smile, the same as the one that Sua’s blood splattered across all those years ago.
In short, Mizi hates herself so much that she beats herself up Luka-style.

"Hyuna’s map isn’t just places on Earth, but that’s most of it. She had written little notes in squiggly handwriting, colored ink, by her landmarks, discussing research and treasures and stories and what she’d been told about them all.
“We’re finishing it,” says Mizi. “The map. You’re coming with me.”
Luka snorts. Just slightly. It makes Mizi’s lips thin and her blood race.
“Sure,” says Luka, finally. His eyes sweep around the room. As far as Mizi knows, no one goes into this room but him. No one goes out, either, usually.
“Sure. When are we leaving?”"Or: In the aftermath of Hyuna's death, Luka and Mizi follow her map to visit the places on Earth she never got to go to.

You're going blind. "Oh," the words echo in her mind. This must be how beached fish feel—doomed by water too warm and tides too unforgiving, knowing better than to hope but still begging for breath when the sun hits their face for that first moment of horrified marvel. Everything is so, so bright now, the lights above her searing themselves into her eyes.
"Oh," says Sua again. Her mind races. How many freckles does Mizi have? How big are the splotches of birthmarks on her right shoulder blade? How long are her eyelashes? Nails? Her hair? She has to remember. She has to. She has to.
Or, the more stars Sua cries as graduation creeps closer and Mizi falls farther from her line of sight, the more does her Umwelt decay.

“It means nothing,” Mizi says amicably, her face betraying no obvious motive other than plain curiosity. “I just think it’s really interesting how the birthday lady finds it hard to admit she doesn’t like her gifts.”
“…pardon?”
“I mean that I can keep a secret or two,” the princess elaborates casually, pushing herself off the wall. Her chartreuse eyes give Sua another onceover that feels weirdly invasive. “You can admit you don’t like it that your mom is marrying you off.”
(or: Sua of House Yoon finds herself in an arrangement she has no desire to see through, but all it takes is one woman to unravel her world and all she has ever known.)
