    Summary

“You’re staring, Suguru.” There’s a teasing lilt to his voice. Flirtatious, maybe, if it had been anyone but Satoru. And so he forces himself to laugh, to take it as the joke it was meant to be and pull his eyes away from the curl of his smile, back to the water before them.

“Guess so.” His pulse surges in his head like the tide. “Lots to see.”

Suguru and Satoru spent their childhood summers inseparable, running wild through the trees and surf of Kamakura, as close as two boys could be. But one summer changed everything and that year when Satoru went back home to Kyoto like he always did, he did not return. Suguru has not seen him since.

Five years later when Satoru reappears, he slips easy back into Suguru’s life. It's a life Suguru thought he had figured out, a life he thought would never change. But they are not boys anymore, and the responsibility of adulthood weighs heavy. Is there any way to make those perfect summers last forever? To find that warm place beneath the sun they could be together, safe and free?

The barista finally set his rag down and turned, completely unfazed by the disgruntled customer before him. But Satoru—

Satoru nearly forgot how to breathe.

The guy was gorgeous. Sharp cheekbones, perfectly shaped brows, dark eyes flecked with hints of violet. His sleek hair was pulled into a bun, save for one loose strand that framed his face just right. Satoru’s gaze flickered down to his nametag. Suguru.

So Suguru’s moving to kiss him— big deal. His breath smells like alcohol, and Satoru should find it gross but he doesn’t. Suguru turns his chin just slowly enough for Satoru to change his mind, but all Satoru does it comply, letting Suguru’s hand guide him towards him with mischief in his eyes and a small smile, and it’s just not a big deal, they’re just fucking around: Satoru feels fully confident about the lightheartedness of this moment right up until the very second Suguru slots their lips together.

Or: One kiss is all it takes to make the dam crumble, to make Satoru ache for things he doesn't understand. All he craves is to keep taking pleasure from Suguru, and he can't seem to put together why Suguru's indulging him.

    Summary

Satoru is staring at that painting without words, his mouth slightly open and Suguru’s not sure if he’s breathing. To be honest, it's the best compliment Suguru can archive. Satoru is shaking a little when he carefully touches it, caressing his pointed finger down slowly. “I can’t accept this as a gift Suguru” Satoru finally says “this belongs somewhere to the gallery so everyone can see it, not to my room!”

Suguru laughs. “It's yours, Satoru, you can sell it when I become famous” he jokes around. But Satoru’s not paying attention to him. He’s still mesmerized by that painting. Then suddenly some emotion crosses his face that Suguru can't tell what it means but Satoru looks even more surprised than before. His voice is nothing more than a whisper when he finally asks “Is that me?”.

“Yes, Satoru. You were my muse for this”
