“Nothing to be ashamed of,” the old woman says when he’s gone, patting Viktor’s shoulder. “Plenty of men damaged in the war.”
Viktor looks at Jayce through the sunny haze of the market: his sweet man, suffering, lopsided, white-knuckling the grip of his cane. The traces of silver shining in his hair.
“Yes,” Viktor says faintly. “He was, ah. Damaged in the war.”

Summary
The Hexcore spits them out somewhere neither of them recognises.
Neither of them really talks, at first. It’s hard for Jayce to recount what happened, and sometimes, when he does try, it ends up feeling like he’s been flashbanged, the pounding in his head immediately deterring him from the thoughts. Viktor would look concerned with him, then, and ask a soft “Are you alright, Jayce?”
Jayce would snip the conversation in the bud with a sharp nod, and that would be it. After all, what would he even say? How do you tell your partner that the monster you both created, inhabiting his body, put Jayce through things that most probably gave him permanent brain damage?

Summary
Viktor starts to speak around Jayce in Zaunite, and once he starts, he can't seem to stop. It's not as if Jayce understands him, so why should it matter if he calls him pet names or tells him how much he loves him? Jayce will never know. And it's not as if he'd ever love him back, right?

He woke up half-crushed on a futon with Jayce’s head on his shoulder, muttering in his sleep. There was a blue screen flickering in front of them—Hextech, he thought, for a terrified moment, before something in his blood told him they’d fallen asleep watching something together, a movie, which he sort of understood, even if he didn’t think he could explain it.
In the cold glow of the screen, Jayce looked strangely… exposed. It was easier to look at Jayce through the beady white eyes of a god, or his soul in the cosmos, than it was to look at what Viktor had done to him now. For a moment he touched their foreheads together—selfish, selfish—just to feel Jayce’s warmth on his skin. The illusion that he had started something instead of ending it, saved someone instead of ruining him.

Summary
It’s not as though Viktor doesn’t eat.
Jayce has run through the proof he’s collected many times to assure himself that this is a fact based on evidence and reason— that Vikor does eat— despite Jayce rarely actually seeing him do so. Viktor just has… poor habits. Worrying habits.
Or: Jayce worries about Viktor and does what any normal, good lab partner would do, and dedicates a totally normal and not absurd amount of time and effort to cook for him.
