He slid his hand over and wrapped it around Takao's body, shuffling down to place his head over his heart. Ear pressed to the soft firm skin he listened carefully to the steady beats. They grounded him. Kept his mind from wandering, from distracting him.

At first, Rei hated the way Nagisa kept hanging on him and pestering him. It annoyed him and made him uncomfortable because he was never the type of person who would physically touch someone unless he knew them very well. But even then, those cases were few and in-between. Physical contact was something he generally avoided. So when the blond kept tugging on his arm and clothing, tackling him from behind, and leaning against him, he was really upset.

Rei looked at him quietly out of the corners of his eyes. The blonde’s face was half-wrapped up in a thick scarf, and his hands were jammed into the pockets of his coat. In comparison to Rei, Nagisa was already small, but right now, the shorter boy was practically shrinking into himself. He watched Nagisa as he breathed out heavily.
