The other twitching with the echo of routines he used to run in his sleep. The ache is familiar now. A quiet, persistent hum beneath the ribs.
He used to own this place. The rink, the ice, the silence. It bowed beneath him like it was lucky to be chosen. Every jump was a threat, every spin a dare. He hadn’t realized how much of his sense of self came from the sound of applause.
Now the silence feels accusatory.
But still— he comes.
