Robby shook his head once, like he didn't know what conversation they were having. Good. "It was a joke," Robby said, tone saying this was obvious. "The kid's miserable living with Santos. I wanted him to feel like he'd be helping me out."

The enormity of their plans hit him, and he swallowed thickly, pushing the anxiety down. Some of what he was feeling must have shown on his face, though, because Jack stepped back a bit, enough to get a good look at Robby. “We don’t have to,” Jack assured. “What we’ve been doing is outrageously good. You know there’s no pressure here, right?”
“I know,” Robby said, scrubbing a hand behind his neck. “But I do want to. Been thinking about it all day. All week, for fucks sake. Been getting myself off like a goddamn teenager just imagining it,” he added, cheeks heating at the admission but wanting Jack to know just how much he had been looking forward to tonight.
