Summary
Galina makes it a point to remind Ilya that people aren’t mind readers, and unfortunately, if there’s something wrong, he has to actually communicate this. He's aware of this. He is. Even though it's always been so much easier said than done, even on a good day.
But when the unthinkable happens, Shane ends up seriously injured, and Ilya can't bring himself to reckon with his role in it all, or how they'll move forward.
Now it's all the more impossible to communicate the weight of his guilt, the feelings of inadequacy, and the all-consuming fear that Shane might not survive.
Alternatively, life as everyone knows it falls apart when Shane takes a bullet that was meant for Ilya.

Shane Hollander is a first year med student with a love for textbooks, routines, and herbal tea. He's not the most sociable but his best friend Rose claims that he has the highest IQ out there. Shane would disagree.
Ilya Rozanov is a Russian exchange student and his whole world revolves around hockey and partying. Some would call him arrogant and closed-off. Ilya wouldn't disagree.
Ilya has never been one for generosity but when his nerdy roommate with freckles, who cant hold eye contact for the life of him, struggles to settle in to this new life, Ilya can't resist the need to help Hollander experience everything Rozanov deems that he's missing out on- including love.

Summary
The Boston Raiders have spent months calling Shane Hollander Mom and Ilya Rozanov Dad.
It was supposed to be a joke.
Until one of their youngest rookies gets into a car accident during the off-season, and Shane gets a call from the hospital informing him that he and Ilya are the only emergency contacts on file.
Apparently, somewhere between home-cooked meals, life lessons, terrible advice, and always showing up when their boys need them, Mom and Dad stopped being a joke.
Because when something goes wrong, the Raiders already know exactly who to call.
In case of emergency, contact the parents.
