But now, I watched as he cowered in the corner, refusing the blanket I had passed him. His red hair a disheveled mess, he had his arms tightly wrapped around his knees. He looked like a lost child. “Where is my mom? Did he take her? Tell me where she is.”
Even his voice was different. Nothing about this person was the person that I knew.
“Neil,” I explained, as gently as I could. “She’s dead, In fact, both your parents are dead.”
