Summary
Hero had been cooped up in her room for at least three days.
He doesn’t want to intrude, so he’s spent his time pacing the floor, making miserable facsimilies of small-talk with Assok while they both pretend to not be nearly as worried as they are, and knocking on Hero’s door occasionally only to get a grumpy, muffled, “Go away,” in response.
Normally, he would oblige, but he isn’t sure how much longer he can pace the floor trying to come up with ways to get her to talk about what’s bothering her so severely.
The fireplace flickers with concern.
And it’s far too quiet.

Bookmarker's Notes
Hero leans forward, and rests their forehead on his sternum.
Once upon a time, he would have flinched and backed away.
Once upon a time, he would have made up some excuse or another to avoid the contact.
Now, his hand lands on the back of her head, and Hero exhales.
His white-noise heart drones behind the fabric of his shirt, and Hero sobs again at the sound.
She just wants someone to take care of her.

Bookmarker's Notes
What, was he just supposed to wait here?
Stanley pressed it.
The room was instantly dimmer.
The Narrator growled. “Twelve. Hours. Stanley.”
Stanley smiled. Had they been productive ones?
“No! No they haven’t been productive at all! This room is a fortress, built to insulate you from the inanity of my content, and absolutely nothing I can create can get in the way of the power given to you by that skip button!”
Stanley took that in. It was a trifle excessive.
Those reviews had really got to him, didn't they?

"That's the whole point of the mission, right?" He joked, "To, y'know, save people. Unless you forgot."
It was hard to be sarcastic because of how she was laughing. Almost like she was moving, dancing around the room. Something swept under Michael, lifting him off the bed.
"Whoa!"
He was floating, just barely hovering above his bed. Frozen for a moment, in the air. He was carefully set on the floor.
"Thank you, Mike, thank you, thank you, thank you!"
And then she was there, holding him, completely human, completely whole.
"Thank you."
Charlotte was gone again, and he was on the ground.
"Always."

Bookmarker's Notes
It wouldn't stop.
You could picture in your mind, what it would be like to tell someone about it. Tell them that there was this thing, too reactive to be a virus, that kept taking over your phone. Automatically your mind supplemented the other person with the store clerk you just fled from.
"Oh hey, wanna talk to the demon in my phone? It won't leave me alone."
Humourlessly your brain continued with the scenario, mental image of the man. Jovial and unconcerned, his words were oddly grating, the banter bitter in your mouth.
"How joyous for you both! Sadly we cannot help you here, but I bet the church could help!"
"Even if I'm not a church-goer?"
"Especially if you're not a church-goer, it's a two-for-one deal for them!" He howled as your brain-scenario was interrupted with a buzz.
Not again.

Bookmarker's Notes
Moon picked at a loose thread at the end of his sweats. “Sun is an idiot.”
“So you’ve said.”
“He’s too trusting.”
You felt your face heating up. “Hey, I keep my promises! I’m not good at much, but at least I can do that well.”
“You bought him,” Moon snarled.
“For the last time, I didn’t. That was my aunt–didn’t Sun tell you?”
“Blocked.”
“You…” You churned over the word, trying to puzzle it out. “You blocked him out completely? Again? Aren’t you lonely?”
“Aren’t you, brat?” he snapped back. “Is that why you’re clinging to Sun like a lost child?”
Your pulse thudded in your ears and you wished you could climb on the roof to be on even ground with the animatronic. “You don’t have to be such an asshole! I’m trying to get to know you and you’re just being a dick.”
