Kissing Deckard feels like a revelation. Hobbs has been with plenty of men, his body and his charisma allowing for nothing less, but Deckard feels like nothing he’s ever experienced before. Edwin stares at the floor, clutching the fabric of his pants like a lifeline, his fingers flexing minutely. “I thought it would fade. I believed I could handle it on my own, and I still-”
“On your own? That’s bollocks. I’m sorry, but it is. I can’t believe you would even attempt to suffer through this by yourself.”
“It is my pain to bear,” Edwin snaps, and Charles flinches. “I still intend to handle this on my own. It was never my intention to burden you any further, and I request that you do not try to interfere.”
(Wherein Edwin can still feel pain after his encounter with Esther, Charles is just trying to help, and the only way out is through.)

“Are you sure you’re alright?” Edwin asks again, the question tinged with more concern than before.
“Always,” Charles says, without even having to think, before adding, just as thoughtlessly, “I love you.”
It’s not at all what he wanted to say. Edwin doesn’t seem to notice Charles’ face visibly crumpling at his own words - he just smiles up at Charles like the sun.

It doesn’t matter how Scott asks, Stiles always says he’s fine.
Scott’s not sure who’s supposed to believe it, or if Stiles just says it because it’s what he thinks he’s supposed to say. They do this now. They break and bleed and fall to bits, but so long as they say they’re okay then none of it’s really happening. It’s a nice idea. Just stick your fingers in your ears and hum really loud.
The problem is that it’s not working, and Scott’s terrible at pretending it is.
