Summary
“Yknow,” Max muses around the cigar hanging from between his lips, pleasantly buzzed on a Tuesday afternoon. The living room, sparsely decorated and mouldering, is a sweltering kind of humid. The kind that makes your teeth chatter, your knees ache. You can feel the rain coming. The clouds outside are burgeoning with unshed sweat, and the world seems to hold its breath in anticipation.
Lou looks up, eyelids heavy, muscles made of slowly melting wax. Max can’t help the gentle pang in his chest, the squeeze of Lou’s fist around his atrophied heart. He’s stretched out like a cat, legs draped across Max’s lap, sticky where their skin meets. They’ve both stripped down to their underclothes, sweat-slick skin glistening in the flickering artificial light.
“Yeah?” Lou lets his head fall back against the arm of their ratty, old couch. He’s laid a flat, ugly pillow across it in the hopes of softening the landing. Judging by the contortion of his face in displeasure, Max figures it must not help much. He watches the trajectory of a small bead of sweat as it rolls, leasurely, down Lou’s cheek. In another light, it could almost look like a tear.

Writhing in the air, they come together and separate once more, drifting between solid shapes and a vague mist. Sonny Louise Wortzik feels, from the cradle of the couch, as though he could reach out at any moment and meld with it – the smoke – with no effort at all.

“You’re a, uh–! You’re an old soul!” Leon defends herself, putting a hand up in peace.
Arthur laughs, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “Second off… Hm.” He juts his chin out, thinking. “I think. Well. It seems pretty obvious to me I was sent to defend those who can’t defend themselves.”

Summary
Leon used to hate the rain. It’s one of the first things he learned about her, after re-introducing themselves at the diner. It was raining outside, and she turned to the window — he remembers her face, framed by fluorescent space lamps and the too-bright street lights outside — and said, “Fuckin’ horrible weather out there.”
But recently, she’s been coming around to it. Arthur, to be fair, has made every effort to make being “caught in the rain” something romantic. Last week, the news forecasted a light drizzle, so he planned accordingly. One umbrella, two thick, water-resistant coats, and one Leon Shermer were what Arthur brought to the park.
And lo and behold, a rainy picnic can be something grand. So long as there’s an awning. And one is not mired in mud. So, it was a bit of a bust. Oh well. Better luck next time.
This afternoon, next time has just rolled around. And then rolled downhill. Rapidly. And tragically. Killing many hypothetical people in its wake.
Or, Leon and Artie fuck in the shower after getting caught in the rain :)
