He kneels at the table, but does not pour himself any tea. She takes up position across from him and reaches for the bowl of sunflower seeds, then pops a few into her mouth. He watches her silently as she removes the shells from her tongue a few moments later.
“What should I call you?” the Rain Master asks, between discarding the shells and reaching for more seeds.
He hesitates, slightly unsure of how to answer. He supposes he could give any name, really. In the end, however, it’s always easiest to fall back on what one already knows.
“My name was Hong.”
She tilts her head in question, then asks, “Was?”
“A long time ago. In another world.”
After causing chaos in the Heavens, a young Ghost King searches for a place to think. The Rain Master's farm turns out to be the perfect place.

Xie Lian had never traveled in his dreams before now. Never opened his eyes and found a different bedroom, different people, a different life. But he had heard of this curse long ago. A curse about people who could glimpse opportunities, other lives. Their souls would travel as they slept.
The only person he had known affected by it was a man whose wife had died. In his dreams, he saw her a thousand times, a thousand worlds where she had lived, and woke up in the world where she had not. Perhaps Xie Lian, too, had a traveler’s soul now, seeking out his Hua Cheng while he waited.
But Xie Lian was not grieving. He was only waiting until Hua Cheng was back and he would have no need for dreams.

Summary
