Summary
For over one hundred years, Dazai has lived in a time loop. No matter what he said or did, Dazai would wake up, sixteen years old, and then die tragically at some point before his eighteen birthday. He was doomed to this fate, and after so many decades of trying to fight it, he'd long since given up. There was no resisting time and no hope for a future. He would idly spend his days repeating the same events for the same two years until the end of time.
That is until something new reared its head, shattering the repetitive nature of his life. An unexpected friendship that had never even come close to existing in previous loops suddenly formed. However, Dazai wouldn't believe this new event could change anything. Hope for an escape from his fate had died in him long ago.
After all, there's no way one little relationship could cause a domino effect that would eventually lead to the unraveling of the time loop, a discovery of the existence of gods, the resurfacing of long forgotten legends and curses, or the (barely avoided) destruction of the whole world, right?
On second thought, maybe it could.

In this case, I can grant you the freedom you so dearly desire.” Instead of pulling away, Nikolai stared Fyodor directly into his eyes, the two of them panting due to the amount of dancing they had done prior. “An agreement benefits both parties. How will I be of help to you? Besides, how can I believe you to grant me my wish? In the end, I’m still bound by the marriage.”
Not looking away from the other’s eye, Fyodor replied, “Don’t worry, I’ll be able to put you to good use if needed. For the second question, you just have to trust me.” That seemed to have done the trick as Nikolai laughed the tiniest bit anew. “I accept,” Nikolai replied, mimicking Fyodor’s tone from before.
Or, Fyodor, a prince, got engaged to another prince, Nikolai.

Summary
Songbirds only sing for two reasons. The first is well known--the romantic interpretation--that songbirds sing to call out to other songbirds. Their song enraptures a mate and the two build a nest together, strong enough to withstand the frigid winter and make way for the dawn of spring.
The other reason one may hear their song is the unfortunate occasion in which they find themselves confronted by fear. They sing often when another bird has come too close to their nest, but perhaps they may find a different danger nearby, such as a bear who threatens to shake the nest they have so meticulously built right out of the barren winter branches. And in this instance the gentle bird’s song is its battle cry.
However, a songbird’s attack is something much less poetic. Their tiny feet and beak become daggers to their opposition. The once demure creature suddenly comes to life, digging its talons into whatever horrible monster dared cross its path and singing proudly as the smallest trickle of blood wells up beneath its claws. The display is surprisingly vicious for such a small, innocent creature, and as such it simply begs the question: why does the songbird dream of killing?
