    Summary

The hum of the airplane engine is a low, vibrating roar, but inside Lu Guang’s chest, the silence is absolute.

To the rest of the world, they are simply flying to Bridon on a hopeful detective trip. To Cheng Xiaoshi, sleeping peacefully against Lu Guang’s shoulder, it’s a chance to finally find clues about his parents. But to Lu Guang, this flight is a desperate, calculated gamble against fate itself.

He doesn't know how many timelines its been since the day he lost his sun. He can't remember the numbers anymore—only the terrifying heat of a transferring power, the blood, and the suffocating, monochrome hell that awaits him every time Cheng Xiaoshi's heart stops beating. Lu Guang knows he is breaking their golden rule. He knows he is tearing down their vow. But he is a starving man, and Cheng Xiaoshi is the wine he is utterly intoxicated in. He will see the blood again. He will hear the dying words again. But he will never, ever let him go.

    Day 7 — free day

“You had one job,” Lu Guang says, flicking the portable cooktop’s switch off with a calmness that is, frankly, infuriating.

“I got distracted, okay?” Cheng Xiaoshi protests, waving a plate like a shield. The toast is charcoal.

Lu Guang eyes it, then eyes Cheng Xiaoshi. “By what?”

“You,” Cheng Xiaoshi says instantly, without thinking. Then flushes bright red.

The silence that follows feels like falling—not down, but inward.
