    Summary

Sunday's eyes are fixed on the piano. He can't explain why, but something about it is captivating.

It's been a very long time since Sunday's played piano.

"Uh, Passenger Sunday?" the Conductor repeats, and Sunday blinks, stiffening as he glances down to meet their eyes, widened slightly in expectation.

"I - sorry," he stammers, clasping his hands together before him in an effort to keep him from tugging his feathers. "I was just - I didn't know there was a piano aboard the Express."

Pom-Pom glances back at it, a small sigh leaving their lips. "Ah, yes," they say, shaking their head. "That old thing... it belonged to Akivili, many years ago."

They say this in the same tone one might say we found it on the side of the road amongst the trash and not this instrument belonged to the long-dead Aeon of the Trailblaze.

The crew of the Astral Express, as Sunday quickly learns, love music.

Or: five times Sunday played piano for a Nameless, and once he played for someone else.

    Summary

    Something is wrong.

Sunday can tell as much from the moment he wakes up, eyes fluttering open to the soft light the Express uses to mimic morning. It's a sight he’s grown accustomed to, yet today it leaves him with a knot in his throat, with clammy palms sticking to his bedsheets. It is when he draws his first breath of the day, only to find it uneven, that an inkling of something sinks into his bones.

He’s sick, he realizes, and with it comes the fluttering of his heart in his chest, abnormal and abrupt. A rhythm disrupted.

Or: Sunday gets sick, but decides to hide it, not wanting to ruin the crew's plans to go to a karaoke joint. This, of course, blows up in his face.

    Summary

“When death finally takes me away from you…” Mydei’s voice broke the quiet, and Phainon froze, the smile vanishing.

    “Mydei—”

    But Mydei only whispered, “Listen.”

It was not a command, but a plea, and Phainon fell silent. Mydei lifted their joined hands, pressing his lips against the back of Phainon’s knuckles slowly, reverently, like prayer, like worship. His eyes never left Phainon’s face, memorizing every line, every shadow, every beloved detail as though carving it into his soul.

Between each word, he kissed Phainon’s knuckles again and again, desperate to convey what fate denied them—that he wanted this devotion in their lifetime too, but prophecy had already stolen that chance. “When death finally takes me away from you,” he repeated softly, lips brushing skin, “I will hold you with my other hand… and promise to find you in that new tomorrow you will deliver us to.”

    Summary

For Sunday, Memoria had been an integral part of his life. In truth, he had spent so many years in a field of Memoria, in a Dreamscape, that he knew it better then the reality he has now been thrust into. Or, at least, that's what he thought to be the case.

For Blade, memories are bitter, striking him with anger, making him lose himself to what he once was, what he still yearns to be deep within himself. Forgetting fully is impossible, as they fill his mind again and again. Yet when they are thrust completely before him, that too, feels just as unbearable.

Blade and Sunday are sent to neutralize a rogue Stellaron corrupting a Memoria Field. It doesn't go terribly well for either of them.
