    “So what did Hammond do to get you here?” Ian asked

    “Paid me,” Catherine answered and he grinned

    “And?” He pressed

    “And what?”

    “And I’m supposed to believe a woman such as yourself can just be bought to do something that will inevitably trigger the PTSD you clearly have from whatever horrors you witnessed in the gulf?” He asked as he quirked an eyebrow

    “How did you-“

    “I’ve read your stuff. After you came back, it was a lot more cynical, more clinical, you don’t describe things the same anymore.”

    “You really pay attention to magazines huh?” She asked dryly

    “Well I do when it proves my point Kitten,” he explained and she gave him a disapproving look at the nickname.

    “My PTSD proves the downfall of democracy?” She asked and he nodded.

    “Yeah, in a way it does,” he informed her. “How much do you understand about chaos theory?”

    Catherine loved her job as a journalist, but after covering the Gulf War and stricken by PTSD she has a hard time writing again until one day she gets a call from John Hammond who makes her an offer to jump start her career and get her back on the right track.
