Ogata closes his eyes as Yuusaku's words echo in his head. Of course. It would be that simple. Why bother with impressing upon Ogata the need to get close to his brother if this wasn't the end goal? Tsurumi probably saw from a mile away Yuusaku's naked desire for Ogata's love. But Ogata would never play along if he thought Tsurumi wanted him to feed into that desire. Instead, he framed it as a mission to figure out Yuusaku's weak points, in order to get them to spend time together, to get Ogata to play nice with his brother, all the while knowing what the actual endgame was.

He decapitates the zucchini just a bit more aggressively than necessary and starts chopping it into chunky, crooked pieces. Back when they were still friends, they never really talked about what they were looking for in potential partners. He wonders if Kenma would be looking for a good cook, and tries chopping it a bit more evenly.

Buck blinks, ignoring the feeling of a single tear fighting past the edge of his lashline. Instantly, he swipes it away. “What?”
“Let me make it about you. Talk to me. I want to know what’s going on with you. I’m not gonna be able to focus on this god awful dinner if I’m worried that you’re alone, and upset, and—”
“I miss you,” Buck confesses, abruptly, because anything else he wants to say right now is too raw, too real.
Eddie exhales into the microphone of his phone. “Yeah. Yeah, I—I know. I miss you, too.”
“No, I miss you. More than I’m supposed to, I think.”
“I’m your best friend, bud,” Eddie tells him. “I think you’re supposed to miss me. We’re eight hundred miles apart.”
Miserably, Buck shakes his head. “Not like this.”

“No. The problem is I don’t want to pick up women.” Eddie really hopes that’s enough information. Ravi is a smart guy. He kind of hopes he’ll piece it together. Though another part of him, a soft, new part of him, hopes Ravi doesn’t. He hopes he has to say it. He should probably get some practice in, right?
Ravi looks at him then, studying him. “You’re really happy being single?”
Eddie exhales. Smiles small and shakes his head.
“No, it’s not that,” he says. “I’m just gay.”

Buck looks up from where he’d been staring at Eddie’s hands, catching his eye. “Huh?”His eyes are beautiful, Buck says—or his voice does. Eddie watches, but there, right in front of him, Buck’s mouth is unmoving.
