“Come on, Ro! What could be more trustworthy than a bus full of gross old carnies?”
The neon lights of the truck stop flickered in erratic patterns across the rain slick curves of the bus. It looked like something old and refurbished, with rounded corners that reminded Roman vaguely of a Volkswagen beetle.
Sanders Lost and Found Circus. The font was angular, the letters painted in a repeating pattern of yellow, purple, indigo, blue that shouldn't have worked but somehow did. Below the name emblazoned across both sides the bus had been painted, each scene rendered with such loving care to detail that they were almost surreally true to life.

Every block looks the same. Ubiquitous city. Cracked sidewalks, pigeon shit, brownstones standing sentry. The streetlights cast a dim, wavering light that seems to pulse.
Janus trudges on and thinks of warmer times.

He’d just heard the door hiss open, had cracked his eyes open just enough to see the vague silhouette of a figure and had spoken before they could. It had been self-defense. Too bad his own voice still made it worse.

As a preventative measure they have been collared and since enslaved by the rest of humanity. Kaidan Alenko is one of these biotics, up for sale, once again. He crosses paths with a certain Alliance commander who, little does the biotic know, will change his life for good.
