“Yes we’ve been acquainted,” Lambert said gruffly, stepping beside Geralt to remove his saddle bags. Geralt waited for the impending joke, but none came.
He looked over at his brother, ready to make a quip about how he must have finally managed to grow a pair this season, when he saw a familiar lute case grasped in Lambert’s hand and he froze. Why did Lambert of all people have….oh….no….
Lambert sighed, finally turning to face Geralt and it was only then that he saw the clear signs of distress agitating his expression and he smelled vaguely nervous. “There’s….something I need to tell you.”

“Bard wandered right through the next town over,” a farmer says, scratching a patchy beard. "You know what folk are like over there. They don’t particularly like Witchers. Hate them, in fact.”
Geralt turns his head. The group hasn’t seen him. He made sure to pick a booth in the darkest and furthest corner in the tavern, content to just drink until the sun went down; and then he could get some sleep.
But now, ale and sleep are the last things on his mind.
“They’ve been trying to get their hands on a Witcher for years,” another farmer joins in, picking at some leftover food on his plate.
The first man shrugs, lifting his tankard to his mouth. “If you can’t go about killing an actual Witcher, do the next best thing: kill it’s bed-warmer.”

Summary
Jaskier was a god of three things. First and foremost, music. It was needed before the other two, due to it being the way he performed his purpose.
Second, love. It was effectively what everyone believed him to be. Another god of love to serve the people well, filling their lives. But it was far from all he was.
Third, he was the fate of hearts. Which was where his purpose came into play. Binding matched hearts, making people see.
Of course, a god so full of purpose and destiny could not go without a fated heart himself. And somehow… his heart was both his life and his hurt.
